Maths & English GCSEs and Functional Skills – Adult part-time

Study Duration: Functional Skills classes and GCSE classes are 3 hours per week.
GCSE English language is a flexible specification that is assessed through exams and controlled assessments. It covers the functional elements of English as well as creative writing and speaking and listening.
GCSE Maths is designed to reflect an increased focus on applying mathematics in context, problem-solving, reasoning and the functional elements of mathematics.
Level 2 Functional Skills are qualifications in English and Maths that equip learners with the basic practical skills required in everyday life, education and the workplace. This qualification allows you to study a GCSE alongside your Access course.
These courses are designed for learners who require a Level 2 qualification to progress their studies and would like to improve their English and Maths skills.
Functional Skills: There are no entry requirements for this course. You will undertake an initial assessment and a diagnostic that will provide an indication of your starting level.
GCSEs: You will be accepted on to a GCSE course if you already hold a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification or if you have a high grade D from a previous exam.
- GCSE English is assessed through an exam.
- GCSE Maths is assessed through an exam.
- Functional Skills are assessed online when you and tutor feel you are ready to be assessed.
- GCSE Maths and English is with AQA.
- Functional skills students who achieve a Level 2 qualification could go on to GCSEs.
If you didn’t achieve a Maths or English GCSE grade A*-C at school then you do not need to pay for GCSE or Functional Skills courses in these subjects.
If you have achieved a Grade A*- C and wish to re-take the qualification to improve your grade, the cost of the courses are between £445 and £810 depending on your circumstances. Please contact us for more information.
Our next part-time English and/or Maths cohorts will start in September 2017.
To apply, you will be required to attend a Taster and Information Event in either July or August. At these events, you will meet with our Maths and English Tutors who will give you useful information, advice and guidance to identify which course is appropriate for you, based on your previous educational and work experience. You will also get to experience what a part-time adult Maths and English course is like, to make sure it’s the right choice for you. At the end of the Event you will be able to apply and given further details about enrolment and starting the course in September.
