Art Students Celebrate Success with their Exhibition

Our Foundation Degree Art & Design students showcased their creative talents in an exhibition held in Leek, as they celebrated the success they have achieved on the course.

The Astound Contemporary Art Exhibition, held at the Nicholson Gallery in Leek, provided a perfect location for students’ range of media including fine art, printmaking, textiles, graphics, ceramics and 3D design.

Local artist Rob Wilson was guest of honour at the opening event where he congratulated the students on their achievements.

He said: “It was really exciting to be involved in the opening of Astound. The show is a fantastic opportunity to see the great selection of work from artists. It is great to see the enthusiasm and hard work that the students from Buxton & Leek College have put in.”

Now in its seventh year, Astound exhibition showcases the talent and creativity from the Foundation Degree in Creative Art & Design Practice. This award is validated by the University of Derby and provides students with the opportunity to study part-time, developing strengths in their chosen art form, from painting and printmaking to ceramics and glass.

Marie Keane, who has been studying part time on the course said: “I’ve learnt so much on this course, working in all different mediums. Most importantly it has enabled me to go back to education and still be a mum,” she said. “The support from tutors has really motivated me and taught me how to market my work and to turn my hobby into a business.”

The exhibition will run until June 17 and is open from 10am to 4pm.

Applications are still open for the next Art & Design Foundation Degree courses that start this September. To find apply or out more about studying at Buxton & Leek College, e-mail enquries@blc.ac.uk  or click here
