Buxton & Leek College awards local businesses for their commitment to apprenticeships

Buxton & Leek College have awarded a number of local businesses for their commitment in developing young people in the region through apprenticeships.

The businesses were nominated by apprenticeship assessors for Continuous Commitment to Apprenticeships, Employer Contribution to Outstanding Apprenticeship Learning and Outstanding Apprentice Support.

Stephanie Traynor, Operations Manager for Apprenticeships at Buxton & Leek College: “We work with some fantastic businesses in the region to deliver apprenticeships and wanted to champion the work that they’re doing to support young people in their career. We have apprentices of all ages, in all sorts of different industries working with employers.”

Continuous Commitment to Apprenticeships

  • Winner – Little Stars Nursery (Cheddleton)
  • Shortlisted– Hairs & Graces (Buxton)
  • Shortlisted – Peak Inns (The Duke in Buxton)

Employer Contribution to Outstanding Apprenticeship Learning

  • Winner – Merlin Entertainments (Alton Towers, Stoke-on-Trent)
  • Shortlisted – Chelsea’s Hairdressing (Glossop)
  • Shortlisted – The Meadows/Springfield School (Leek)

Outstanding Apprentice Support

  • Winner – Buxton Medical Centre (Buxton)
  • Shortlisted – The Devonshire Arms, part of the Chatsworth Group (Beeley)
  • Shortlisted – The Beauty Room (Marple)

The event was held as part of National Apprenticeship Week, a week to celebrate the impact that apprentices have in businesses around the country.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, Buxton & Leek College also hosted an Engineering Employer Breakfast, a Carpentry competition for apprentices, Employer awards, Apprenticeships recruitment event where local employers are looking for apprentices to join their company and hosted an Early Years Forum focused on apprenticeships, events for people interested in apprenticeships, employer awards and a Childcare & Education employer event hosted on campus.
