Students Join Fashion Revolution at Foxlowe

CATWALK creations inspired by all cultures will be paraded on the catwalk at Foxlowe Arts Centre in Leek when students from Buxton & Leek College show off their talent at the Fashion Revolution Show.

A group of 23 students from the Extended Diploma in Art and Design are busy creating garments and accessories based on the theme Wrapped in Culture for the event taking place on Thursday April 21. The students are exploring both traditional and contemporary textiles from other countries and will be joined by Foundation Diploma students who are specialising in Fashion and Textiles in preparation for university. Level 2 Art and Design students are also taking part by designing and making skirts while Theatrical Hair and Makeup students will give the models a professional look and student photographers will capture the event on camera.

The show taking place at The Foxlowe, in Market Place, on April 21 has become an annual event and will feature a wide range of colourful and ethical clothes and accessories from local designers as well as college students. Independent shops from Leek, Ashbourne and the surrounding area will be showcasing their latest clothing ranges including Equatorial, Holly Crow, Hugget, Melissa-Claire and Wardrobe of Leek alongside handbags by Maggie Gosling and hats by Pachacuti. For the first time, this year’s show will also feature canine fashions from Sweetpea & Boo. There will also be stalls selling local and ethical products including jewellery by Aphrodite Designs and Tropic natural skincare.

Fashion Revolution Day on 24 April – www.fashionrevolution.org – marks the anniversary of the disaster in Dhaka, Bangladesh where 1,133 people were killed and over 2,500 were injured when the Rana Plaza factory complex collapsed. Social and environmental catastrophes in the fashion supply chain continue and Fashion Revolution uses the power of fashion to inspire change and reconnect the broken links in the supply chain.

Fashion Revolution Show starts at 7pm with doors opening at 6.15pm. Tickets are £7.50, which includes a complimentary glass of wine, available from the Foxlowe Arts Centre box office and www.wegottickets.com
