Students show off their flair for hair and beauty

Over 100 students from Buxton & Leek College showcased their hair and beauty skills on Sunday 21st May in Buxton’s Devonshire Dome, taking part in the College’s annual Hair & Beauty Show.

Hair & Beauty Students from both campuses were given a theme to develop into their own make up, hair, nail and beauty looks. They then researched their theme and created their looks live at the event in front of judges from across the industry and the public.

Sam Caird from Shhh… Beauty Salon in Congleton was one of the judges out on the floor in the competition. She said:

“The quality of entries was very, very good. There were lots of ideas and imagination on display which were all executed really well. It’s been really difficult to choose the winners as the entries have been so strong. The category I judged was for beauty therapists but some of them have also shown a real talent for makeup that would take them far in the industry.”

The categories and winners from each section were:

Level 2 Barbering “Freestyle Hair Tattoo” – Lucy Groomsbridge

Level 2 Hair “Musicals/Movies – Kelsey Arnold

Level 1 Hair & Beauty “Fantasy” – Emma Mycock

Level 2 Beauty “Nature”- Grace Mosely

Buxton and Leek College Hair and beauty show 2015

Buxton & Leek College said: “We’re really proud to be celebrating the work and progress of our students from where they began 32 weeks ago – to see how much they’ve grown in confidence, skills and as individuals is fantastic. They’ve really showcased their professional and employability skills today, and have demonstrated just how seriously they take what they’re doing.”

Hair & Beauty students at Buxton & Leek College benefit from learning their skills in the Salons at both campuses that are open to the general public and work with products from well-known brands such as Wella, MAC and Dermalogica. This means that they get real world learning experience by providing treatments to real people as they would do in industry.
