Young People offered training in stately style

A key part of the Traineeship is the work placement and all aspects of Chatsworth business are offering opportunities – including learning Bakery skills to supply the Chatsworth cafes and shops, as a Visitor Guide welcoming visitors to the House and  sharing its story; developing gardening skills by looking after the impressive grounds and gardens, and learning hospitality and customer service skills in the gift shops, restaurants, kitchens or warehousing spaces.

Assistant Principal at Buxton & Leek College, Jack Price said: “Traineeships are a great way for young people to develop their own work based skills and aptitudes, preparing them for further qualifications and employment.  Chatsworth is known for its quality visitor experience and its broad appeal, and the trainees will be putting their learning into practice at one of the top visitor attractions in the north of England.  This will stand them in great stead for their future careers”.

Starting on August 1, the Chatsworth Traineeship Programme will see young people taking part in work placements for three days a week and 2 days onsite training to develop employment skills and improve English and maths skills (for those that require it).  An allowance will be paid to help with transport and meals.  At the end of the 14-week placement the trainee will receive a reference from Chatsworth, will have the opportunity to apply for vacancies at the estate – including the new Gardening apprenticeship, and will be supported to help find other suitable apprenticeships, training and job roles to build on their experience gained at Chatsworth and meet their career aspirations.

The Programme is an addition to the existing portfolio of local training opportunities for young people from the University of Derby. Starting from a traineeship or apprenticeship with Buxton & Leek College, learners can progress onto degree-level qualifications such as Foundation Degrees or Higher Apprenticeships to help achieve their career ambitions whilst gaining valuable on-the-job training.

An information and selection event is being held during July and Chatsworth will be looking for young people who are enthusiastic about customer service, enjoy working as part of a team, are interested in developing their communication skills and committed to their own development.

Interested young people should check out the website at www.blc.ac.uk/chatsworth or call Buxton & Leek College for more information on 0800 074 0099.
