Access to Higher Education
If you’ve been away from education for some time, or didn’t quite achieve your College qualifications, an Access to Higher Education course will give you the confidence and skills to take that next step to start a degree or equivalent University level course.
Buxton & Leek College is proud to be part of the University of Derby, which is particularly beneficial for our Access to Higher Education courses. You can study an Access to Higher Education Diploma at our College campuses in Buxton and Leek, as well as our University campus in Derby.
What will I study?
You'll be asked to choose three subjects plus Study Skills.
What you choose will depend on what degree you want to do after you've finished the course. Our tutors will be able to help you make the right choice.
When will I study?
The course runs for 33 weeks from September to June and follows school terms. Classes start at 10am, for Access students there are some classes available in the evening.
What are the entry requirements for these courses?
You will need to be over 19 years of age and have some life experience. Entry to Access to HE Diploma will be considered on an individual basis. You will also need to demonstrate a commitment and ability to study, and take a literacy test before we can offer you a place.
If you want to apply for our courses, you'll need to attend an Information Event, you'll be able to find out everything about the courses, find out about fees and finance, get careers advice and sit your literacy test.
