In partnership with Buxton & Leek College, Holly Staniford from Fish in a Tree will be holding a guest talk at our Buxton campus, Devonshire Road, SK17 6RY.

Holly is passionate about the outdoors and the impact of the natural world on imagination, learning and well- being. She believes that children’s learning flourishes when it is experiential, meaningful, multi-sensory and fun!

Holly runs a successful Derbyshire based business called ‘Fish in a Tree’ where she delivers training and works outdoors with all ages, promoting creative, experiential learning, whatever the weather. Holly has written blogs for a range of organisations dedicated to outdoor learning, including The Wild Network. In addition to providing relevant CPD for our employers, this session would also support local business.

Key themes will include:

  • The importance and impact of outdoor learning. Obstacles to overcome.
  • Imagination in education. No resources necessary. Practical ideas to use in your setting. How to spark imagination.
  • The connection between brain development and children’s learning outdoors in the early years.
  • The impact of the outdoors on language development and self-esteem, and how this impacts on learning and behaviour.
  • How to make learning experiential, meaningful, multi-sensory and fun.
  • The impact of storytelling on outdoor adventures.
  • Ideas for outdoor settings and bringing the outside in.
