BLC APPRENTICESHIPS HOST VIRTUAL COUNTRY FAIR

As our Apprenticeships Team continue to work hard with their apprentices; it’s safe to say we’re all starting to miss being in college around our students, colleagues and wider communities. So with this in mind, our Apprenticeships Team want to invite you to our very first BLC Apprenticeships Virtual Country Fair!

We’re hosting a variety of family-friendly competitions which have been specially designed to showcase the talents of our brilliant apprentices- who have each come up with the ideas for the events and will be helping judge entries. All of these competitions are completely free to enter for all ages so we’d love for you to take part and why not get your parents or friends to join in the fun too! We are looking forward to seeing what everyone is creating at home and hope you all have fun!

To enter any of the competitions below, simply email your entry to feapprenticeships@blc.ac.uk and include your name, age and the competition in the email. Or share your entry with us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #BLCApprenticeshipsComp and make sure to include your name, age and what competition you want to enter in your posts! (P.s. Please make sure all social media posts are set to public or we might not be able to see them- if in doubt please direct message us to check we’ve seen it!)

All entries will then be separated and judged in the following age categories:

  • Under 4 years old
  • 4-7 years
  • 8-11 years
  • 12-16
  • 17-19
  • Adult

All entrants will recieve a digital Certificate of Entry. In our younger categories, those awarded 1st 2nd and 3rd places will also receive their very own medal. And for our older contestants, 1st place will also receive the digital certificate and a medal.

All 1st place winners will then be put forward to win overall ‘Best in Show’- which will be judged by Buxton & Leek College Principal Len Tildsley and awarded a prize.

Competition 1: Best Vegetable Animal

An animal made from any fruit or vegetables. Please take a clear picture and add your details to the entry. Judged by the Early Years Apprentices.

Competition 2: Best painted stone

Any design painted on any sized stone. Please take a clear picture and add your details to the entry. Judged the Early Years Apprentices.

Competition 3: Best craft/artwork

Please take a clear picture and add your details to the entry. Judged by the Apprenticeships Team.

Competition 4: Best decorated cupcakes

3 cup cakes minimum. Please take a clear picture and add your details to the entry. Judged by BLC Catering Tutors.

Competition 5: Best Sponge Cake (UNDECORATED)

Any flavour eg lemon, almond etc. Please send a picture of the whole cake and a picture with 1 slice cut so the inside of the cake can be seen. Judged by BLC Catering Assessors.

Competition 6: Best Sponge Cake (DECORATED)

Any flavour, any decorations and designs. Please send a picture of the whole cake and one with 1 slice cut so the inside of the cake can be seen. Judged by BLC Catering Tutors.

Competition 7: Rate my plate competition

Post one image of a meal you have fully cooked USING NO MORE THAN 5 INGREDIENTS with 1-line description. Judged on creativity, presentation, quality and nutritional benefit by our Hospitality and Catering Assessors and Tutors.

Competition 8: Best Animal Photograph

This can be wildlife or pet. Please post to your social media page and use the hashtag. Judged by the BLC Marketing Team.

Competition 9: Hairdressing- Creativity

Create a festival hairstyle on long hair using plaits and waves. You can use accessories to enhance the style. Please take photographs from the front, side and back to show the full look. Judged by our Hair Professional Tutors.

Competition 10: Hairdressing- HAIR ‘HOW TO’ GUIDE

Create a ‘how to guide’ for looking after your hair at home. During the lockdown period, people are looking at how to care for their hair at home, a guide will help advise on what they can do and any home products that they can use that can benefit the hair. Judged by our Advanced Hairdressing Tutors.

Competition 11: Engineering- Best Lego/Meccano

Any build of YOUR OWN DESIGN. Please take a picture of your build and write a short 1 line description along with your details. Judged by our Engineering Assessor and Tutors.

Competition 12: Engineering- Best 5-Minute Engineering ‘How to’ Guide

A 5-minute video clip that will help the community during the lockdown. Eg- how to fix your push bike. Judged by our Engineering Assessor and Tutors.

Competition 13: Carpentry and Joinery- Best short video on tool safety

2-Minutes maximum. Judged by our Carpentry & Joinery Assessor.

Competition 14: Carpentry and Joinery-Best lollipop stick construction

Judged by our Carpentry & Joinery Assessor and Tutors.

Competition 15: Hair and Beauty-VE DAY LOOK

Create a wartime look to celebrate VE Day. This includes a wartime hairstyle and make up look. Please take photographs from the front, side and back to show the full look. Judged by our Hairdressing Assessors and Tutors.

The closing date for entries is 11th May 2020.
