BLC Christmas Video Marks the End of College’s Amazing December Fundraising

Buxton & Leek College has released its Christmas Video which features students and staff looking merry and festive, whilst still making sure they stick to their ‘social baubles’.

The start of the video showcases the beautiful singing of 17-year-old Tori Davies from Leek, a Public Services’ student who covers Keane’s song, Somewhere Only We know. This video excerpt is taken from a full Christmas concert delivered by the Public Services student that has been sent to over 25 care homes in Buxton, Chapel and Leek.

There are lots of other familiar faces from around the College featured in the video, together with some unfamiliar furry ones as well.

This year BLC has chosen a number of charities to support, raising over £2000 during the Christmas period so far. The Enrichment Team raised £590 with their Reindeer Rush sponsored walks with donations going to East Cheshire Hospice. Whilst the Public Services student’s 24-hour Run, Ride, Row event raised an impressive £826, with funds collected going to Blind Veterans UK, who said in a tweet to the College “we really appreciate this amazing support.”

£290 has been raised for Christies Wishes, with students and staff buying stars and writing their wishes on them to hang on the College Christmas trees. £500 was also raised by the Foundation Learning Group through a sale of beautiful Christmas decorations and goods that they handmade themselves. Their chosen charity was Leek Food Bank and The Salvation Army.

Other charitable activities included a Christmas card appeal arranged by the Enrichment team, encouraging students to hand-make Christmas cards for elderly people in the community who may be lonely.

Level 2 Hair Students (Leek campus) provided Christmas parcels to be donated to Lighthouse Refuge: Glow, whilst BLC Raise and Give group (Buxton campus) held a foodbank appeal for the Residents of Fairfield Association.
