Buxton & Leek College (BLC) launch partnership with Leek Town FC

Buxton & Leek College is proud to announce an educational partnership with Leek Town FC. Starting in September 2023, Leek Town Football Club Academy will offer students an elite football training programme alongside full-time study at Buxton & Leek College, working towards a BTEC Level 3 Sports qualification.

A spokesperson for BLC said:

“Following the successes of similar programmes with Buxton FC and Derby County, this is a fantastic opportunity for local students who are looking to study whilst pursuing their love of football. This course provides students with a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport & Physical Activity, and the UCAS points to allow them to progress onto further education.”

The modules will be delivered face-to-face at the F Ball Community Stadium in Leek, so students can benefit from time in state-of-the-art training facilities with subject specialist tutors and UEFA B Coaches. The programme offers students the chance to train with the First Team & Development Squad as well as shadowing professional coaches and players. Through the First Team & Development Squads students can even progress from the academy to semi-pro football.

The study time of the Leek Town FC Academy course is equivalent to that of three academic A Levels and offers diverse degree route options in subject areas such as Sports Science and Business Studies, so students won’t be limited in their next steps after college.

Students enrolled on this programme will also have access to all the usual Buxton & Leek College benefits, including bursary schemes and college transport links.

As a way for students and parents to experience and learn more about the programme, Buxton & Leek College, in partnership with Leek Town FC, are holding an Open Day and Taster Event at the F Ball Community Stadium in Leek.

The Open Day on Friday 24th February, running from 9am – 2pm, will include a host of fun activities for prospective students and their families to get involved with. There will also be ample opportunities for any queries about the programme to be answered.

On Thursday 2nd March, running in the evening from 5pm – 7pm, the Taster Event is another chance for students and their families to get involved with fun football-based activities and have their questions answered before they decide to apply for the programme.

BLC is excited to see interested students and parents get involved with their Open Day and Taster Event on Friday 24th February 9am – 2pm and on Thursday 2nd March 5pm – 7pm.
