Buxton & Leek College (BLC) opens its doors to learners and their families on Saturday 11 March

As a way of finding out more about their courses and programmes, Buxton & Leek College is offering the opportunity for school leavers, parents, and adult learners to tour their facilities at their Open Day on Saturday 11 March.

Running across both the Buxton and Leek campuses from 10am – 1pm, the Open Day is a wonderful opportunity for year 10 and 11 students to get to know the college and what studying a course at BLC entails. Live demonstrations from their wide range of subject areas, and the chance to speak with tutors about next steps after GCSEs will help young people to navigate all the options on offer.

At the Buxton campus there are plenty of exciting activities to get involved with and facilities to tour, including a simulated hospital ward, seven industry kitchens, a hair & beauty salon, and a childcare nursery. Visitors are also invited to explore the range of subject areas available at the campus, like Public Services, Hospitality & Catering, Sport, Business, Motor Vehicle, and Education & Childcare.

Over at the Leek campus the Open Day offers the chance to tour their state-of-the-art £8.5 million redeveloped workshops and facilities, including Salon Inspire, their fully equipped hair & beauty salon, and speak to the tutors of a variety of subjects such as Art & Design, Hair & Beauty, Carpentry & Joinery, Engineering and more.

Buxton & Leek College also offer apprenticeships and T Levels in a variety of subject areas for you to explore, and their dedicated apprenticeships team will be able to guide you through your next steps.

A spokesperson for BLC said:

“This is a fabulous chance for young people and their families to experience life at Buxton & Leek College, and to find out more about subject areas and careers which they’re genuinely interested in.”

Adult learners are also being encouraged to come along and find out about the variety of courses on offer. Online short courses and part-time vocational programmes are available in a range of subject areas, such as Art & Design, Accounting, Engineering, Carpentry & Joinery, Counselling, Hair & Beauty, and Education & Childcare. Plus, their links with the University of Derby allows for access to university level courses at both their Buxton and Leek campuses. Need to re-sit your maths and English GCSEs? There’s help available for that too, with free advice being offered at both campuses.
