Carers get a chance to put their feet up

CARERS in Derbyshire are looking forward to some much deserved `me time` with a revitalising pampering session at Buxton & Leek College’s salon in the Devonshire Dome.

Level 2 Beauty students at the college will be giving members of the Buxton group of the  Derbyshire Carers Association the full works with a facial and either manicure or pedicure together with hand and arm or foot and leg massage with complimentary refreshments including a wellness cocktail on arrival and a take-home goodie bag.

The time out treat has been organised by volunteer Jean Bell from Derbyshire Carers Association who said that her group of ladies are really looking forward to the February session. She said: “These carers work so hard without complaining and I feel that a pamper session will cheer them up and give them some respite from their day to day caring duties.”

Amanda Garrington, Operations Coordinator for Hair and Beauty at The Dome, said: “I am sure, as is often the case, that the carers are as much in need as the people they are looking after. They provide care 24 hours a day and can easily reach burn-out so we are delighted to help bring a bit of feel-good factor into their lives with our `Revitalise Me` package.

“Jean Bell has worked really hard by raising funds through car boot sales and other events to make this happen.

“It’s good that our students get a chance to make people happy and bring some much deserved feel-good factor into their lives. By having the carers visit our commercial salon the students will also have a fresh opportunity to practise their customer service skills and meet new clients from across the community.”
