College joins in with gift appeal to help families feeling the pinch

Buxton & Leek College is joining forces with a group of Leek businesses who are once again clubbing together to buy gifts for children and teenagers in families where finances are stretched at this time of year.

Dave Swarbrook and Mark Brammar from the Foxlowe Arts Centre based business networking group, Fox Networking, are coordinating the appeal along with Buxton & Leek College and the Fox & Crow Gallery. The gifts will be donated to an annual appeal at Haregate Community Centre, from where they will be distributed.

Many of the gifts will be purchased from independent retailers in Leek, who have offered generous discounts to make the money stretch even further.

We hope that by joining the appeal we can give the campaign a real boost and help exceed last year’s total of over £1000.

Laura Cottingham, manager at Haregate Community Centre added: “We have contact through the centre with many families who are barely managing financially due to spiralling prices and inflation.

“We collect gifts for children and young adults each year so that no one feels left out at Christmas. Last year the concerted effort from Dave and Mark’s appeal made a fantastic addition to our total. We are incredibly grateful to everyone involved to help make Christmas special for so many local families.”

Anyone wanting to donate gifts can drop them at the Fox & Crow Gallery at the Foxlowe Arts Centre or at reception at the Leek Campus of Buxton and Leek College.
