Important update information from the University for Buxton & Leek College students as of 12th March 2020

Teaching

The outbreak of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) is being closely monitored by authorities at home and overseas. We continue to follow government guidance on responding to the coronavirus. The university/college continues to operate as normal. We are not advising students to stay away from campus sites or classes. We will keep the situation under review and if this position changes, we will notify students. Please continue to attend as normal. Plans are in place to enable learning to be maintained in the event of the Government requiring colleges to suspend classes. Further information will be provided if this happens. Please refer to the University/College website and your emails (via UniMail) regularly.

If however, you feel you are not able to continue to attend please contact phconcerns@derby.ac.uk with your name and student ID number. If you are self-isolating currently or go into self-isolation over the next few days, you must email phconcerns@derby.ac.uk immediately so we can support you as a University and ensure your learning is as unaffected as possible.

Please also adhere to any coursework submission deadlines. If your circumstances are affecting your ability to meet your assessment deadlines you should let your tutor know as soon as possible. The College will follow the guidance from awarding organisations and Ofqual regarding examinations.

Hygiene
We continue to maintain our high standards of domestic cleaning as part of our Coronavirus response.

We continue to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene at all times, in line with Public Health England advice. One of the best ways to protect yourself from most viruses is to maintain good hand cleanliness.
You can also protect yourself and others from most illnesses if you:
– Carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze.
– Bin the tissue, and to kill the germs, wash your hands with soap and water, or use a sanitiser gel.

This is the best way to slow the spread of almost any germs, including coronavirus.

University transport
We operate a Unibus service in partnership with Notts/Derby in Derby, Buxton and Leek. The buses are also cleaned and continue to operate as normal. You can choose alternatives to the Unibus. If the campuses are within walking distance, this maybe an option for you.

Student harassment
We have received reports of students experiencing harassment and incidents of discriminatory behaviour towards them. We take all allegations of abuse and harassment very seriously. If you see anything like this, please capture as many details as you can and report it at once. Please contact Security via 01332 59 1111, your local Reception desk or College Student Centre.
Failure to comply with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Charter in line with these reports will result in disciplinary action.

World Travel
The current official guidance relating to world travel can always be found on this page – it is changing frequently, so if you have travelled recently, please read the section on ‘Returning Travellers’ carefully and follow the advice given for the relevant country.

As always if you have any queries please do contact phconcerns@derby.ac.uk or call 01332 593333.
