Motor Vehicle & Logistics Adult Short Courses

This qualification is aimed at adults who are already in employment and would like to increase their knowledge and understanding of a range of topics relating to environmental sustainability. It forms part of a wide-ranging strategy of business improvement and lean management and is applicable across all sectors.

This course is split into six manageable units, with a seventh optional unit available:

1. Principles of sustainable development – including human and global issues that impact sustainability, how carbon footprint is calculated and how it can be managed, and the consequences of organisations polluting the environment.
2. Principles of sustainable communities – including what is required for a community to be sustainable and the sources of support for implementing sustainable development in a community.
3. Principles of sustainable energy management – including Legislation and international agreements relating to sustainable energy management, energy conservation techniques and how to set targets for energy saving.
4. Social responsibility of businesses in relation to sustainability – including what is meant by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) and greenwashing.
5. Principles of waste management – including characteristics of different types of waste, legislation relevant to waste management and how to dispose of waste safely.
6. Principles of sustainable transport – including Economic, environmental and social aspects of sustainable fuels, how organisations can incentivise staff to reduce transport use and methods to promote more sustainable transport.

The final, optional unit is ‘Sustainability applied in own setting’ which amongst other things, covers how to carry out a carbon audit, planning sustainability improvements based on the carbon audit and challenges that may be faced when addressing these issues in you own setting.

This is an online course and therefore you can choose when and where you study. Your personal Tutor or Learner Support Advisor will ensure you get all the support you need to complete the course.

Our online learning resources are of the highest quality and are designed to be engaging and interactive to keep you focused on your learning at all times. The set activities will help you apply learning to real life scenarios and training will be individualised via diagnostic assessment to allow you to focus on any gaps in your knowledge

You will be expected to complete approximately 49 hours of online study time over the duration of the programme.

Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Environmental Sustainability

You may choose to continue your education with the Level 3 Certificate in Environmental Sustainability.

This qualification is evaluated by internally set and marked assessments.

Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy

The content of this qualification has been designed to give you the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out routine maintenance and repair activities (not voltage components or systems). This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high energy/electrical system.

It contains one mandatory unit covering knowledge of:

• electric/hybrid vehicle system components and operation
• hazards surrounding electric/hybrid vehicles
• how to reduce the risks to yourself and others when working on electric/hybrid vehicles
• safely preparing the vehicle when carrying routine maintenance (NOT high voltage components or systems)

PLUS SKILLS OF:

• working safely on an electric/hybrid vehicle (NOT high voltage components or systems)

As a result, upon successfully completing this qualification you will acquire significant core knowledge and skills and the ability to work safely around and maintain Electric/Hybrid vehicles.

Blend of Classroom, workshop and directed self-study. 

Range of learning aids including: Electude (interactive software resource) Workshop practical assessments, Class handouts (paper based and electronic), peer group assessments, practice tests. 

Specialist tools/ppe associated with high voltage systems: 

Insulated socket set, spanners, screwdrivers. Insulated gloves, floor mats, multimeter. 

IMI L2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities 

This qualification will help support your progression onto qualifications that further develop your knowledge and skills within a technical role, carrying out repair and replacement of high voltage components on Electric/Hybrid vehicles.
