Counselling

This course will enable you to take up a role as a professional counsellor.
Providing you have completed 405 taught and guided learning hours (classroom and study packs) and 100 hours practice.

Although it builds on the understanding gained from the earlier theoretical models studied this course specialises in psychodynamic counselling and this is the way you will work with clients. The academic work centres on the underpinning theory and skills used with clients.

You’ll cover at a deeper level: professional codes of ethics; the relevance of confidentiality; the law in relation to confidentiality, case notes and health and safety issues. You’ll also consider their relevance in terms of your practical work, as well as considering the challenges and limitations of each of these in practice looking at complex ethical dilemmas.

At each level, the Tutors will help you to understand more about yourself, your own psychological and emotional development; to reflect upon the kinds of core personal moral qualities counsellors need to develop and the ethical principles they need to work within. You’ll also develop an understanding of how each of the disciplines see the development and perpetuation of psychological problems and how to help clients overcome them.

Counsellors are required to have regular supervision of their work, and you will gain further awareness of the significance and value of this in your work.

This course is suitable for people interested in using counselling skills in life, work and relationships and anyone interested in finding out more about how they and other people ’tick’. It is also suitable for anyone who wants to use become a professional counsellor.

Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice

You may progress to a degree course or simply decide to start your career as a therapist.

Written assignments, journals, supervision report, role plays and an externally assessed exam.

Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills. The level 3 qualification has an externally assessed exam which is “carried forward” to level 4. You will also be asked very quickly to work with clients and will need the experience gained at level 3 in order to do this

The fees for this are £2882 and may be paid for via an adult learner loan.

We have an experienced tutor/counsellor who has an extensive list of placement partners whom we work with. She will assist you to find a placement in September, once we know who is in the group, what your aspirations are and when we can be sure that measures are in place to minimise the risk of you contracting Covid 19.

In the meantime, please feel free to independently contact organisations whom you feel you would like to gain experience with, as we cannot guarantee that we will be able to put you in touch with providers who specialise in the area in which you wish to work or convenient to where you live.

All of our students have successfully completed counselling placements so please do not worry about this aspect of your course.
