Level 2 Certificate in Allergy Awareness

Tell me about the course
This course is aimed at adults over 19-years-old who are interest in starting out in the hospitality industry or those currently working within the sector who require upskilling to meet current health and safety requirements within the workplace. This programme is also beneficial to anyone working with children or within the health and social care sector.

The Level 2 Certificate in Allergy Awareness is designed as an introduction for those who wish to pursue a career in working with people who have allergies, or those preparing for a wide range of job roles which require them to have an awareness of allergies as part of their responsibilities.

You will learn about food labelling and allergy awareness, and gain an understanding of the symptoms of allergic reactions, the treatments available for allergic reactions, and first aid for those experiencing a severe allergic reaction.

This course is split into three manageable units. You will complete two mandatory units and the third will be selected from the choices available, as shown below:
1. Allergens, allergies and intolerances (Mandatory)
2. Food labelling and packaging (Mandatory)
3. Allergy awareness for those working with children (Optional)
4. Allergy awareness for those working in adult health and social care (Optional)
5. Allergy awareness for those working in the service sector (Optional)
Since this is an online course, you can choose when and where you study and it’s ideal if you need a flexible training solution that fits around your lifestyle and work schedule. Your personal tutor will ensure you get all the support you need to complete the course hut you will need to be self-motivated and able to work against the pressures of studying independently. You will be expected to complete reading and research to support your learning and will find it useful to be able to engage with IT resources, including internet, email and Microsoft Teams.

This qualification will enable you to further your continuous professional development giving you the confidence to continue in your current employment and the ability to improve your career prospects.

You may wish to enhance your employability by completing further training related to this qualification such as food safety.
How will I be assessed?

To pass this qualification you must complete an online portfolio to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding.
Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements and no prior experience of the catering industry is required.
