We offer Functional Skills Level 2 and GCSEs in both Maths and English for adults – and if you didn’t achieve a grade C or above at school, the course is Free! GCSE courses start in September, but Functional Skills courses can be started at various points throughout the year.

For young people aged 16-18 enrolled onto our full-time courses and/or apprenticeships, if you did not achieve grade C/4 or above when you sat maths and/or English GCSE exams at school you will also be enrolled onto an appropriate maths and/or English course at College. You will be assessed within your induction period to identify what level you should enrol onto; this will either be GCSE or Functional Skills.

In 2017/18 over 130 Buxton & Leek College students passed their GCSE maths or/and English this year after failing them at school. The college has announced it has also bucked the national GCSE trend for the second consecutive year, achieving an increase on the national average by 2.85% for those taking their English exams and an astonishing 10.55% increase for those who took their maths exams this year.  Read more about this success here.
