The Buxton Crescent is an Historic iconic grade 1 listed building, it is one of the most architecturally significant buildings in the country. “The Crescent was the centrepiece of the Fifth Duke of Devonshire’s plans to establish a fashionable Georgian Spa town in Buxton, originally having two hotels and lodges. The Crescent has undergone an extensive redevelopment and restoration completed in October 2020, the luxury Hotel offers circa 81 bedrooms, including suites, extensive Spa facilities, with a Thermal Natural Water Spa, and Spa lounge. The Hotel has a stunning Restaurant, bar and incorporates the magnificent Assembly rooms, Card room, and conference meeting rooms for business meetings and Weddings. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE  

We are looking for an Apprentice Chef who would enjoy working in the luxury Historic Buxton Crescent Hotel and quaint Old Hall Hotel. The Apprentice Commis Chef shall train to assist in all sections of the kitchen operation, to ensure that statutory obligations and Company standards are met, that a smooth, efficient service is maintained, and that the product provided to our guests is of the highest standard.

VACANCY DESCRIPTION  

• Prepare and cook food items for the various Food and Beverage outlets to the required standards
• To ensure food is not given to anybody unless a check or docket has been supplied
• To use all kitchen equipment for its proper purpose at all times
• Clean areas in accordance with cleaning schedules and sign them off when completed and correctly clean and storing food production equipment
• Wear provided personal protective equipment at all times
• Dispose of unfit food items in line with wastage policy
• Report any hazards or accidents immediately
• Check storage are ready to receive goods and check the quality and quantity of all food items delivered, reject poor quality ingredients
• Observing and follow hygiene regulations on food storage and temperature control in all areas of the kitchen and when receiving a delivery
• Store raw and cooked items separately, Securing storage areas
• Report and act on problems with deliveries
• Ensure that items are dated, rotating all food stock items and report unusually high or low stock levels
• Clean food items as necessary (e.g. vegetables)
• Maintain knowledge of recipes and production standards
• Use precise measures of ingredients as per Company standard
• Follow preparation methods as given by Company standard
• Use the correct dishes and utensils for food presentation
• Prepare areas for food preparation
• Prioritise important work tasks
• To assist in kitchen preparation
• To complete work given by Head Chef/ line manager on any section of the kitchen to the laid down standard which has been agreed
• To work quickly and calmly whilst promoting good working relations within the kitchen
• Maintain a workload rate that is sufficient to ensure the efficient running of the kitchen operation and the avoidance of interruptions to service.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED  

Ideally, you will have GCSE Maths & English grade 4/C or above or an equivalent.

There is potential you could study towards these qualifications as part of your apprenticeship depending on personal circumstances.

FUTURE PROSPECTS   

There is potential for permanent employment and further training on the successful completion of your apprenticeship.

WORKING WEEK   

8 hour shifts, working days will include weekends. You working hours will include time spent completing off-the-job training such as attending college.

An Apprenticeship in Food and Beverage Hospitality is responsible for welcoming guests and working across several areas of Food and Beverage during your placement to deliver an excellent Guest experience while managing guest queries.

What will you be doing?

As an Apprenticeship Food and Beverage, you are responsible for welcoming guests and working across several areas of Food and Beverage your placement to deliver an excellent Guest and Member experience. An Apprenticeship Food and Beverage will also be required to manage guest queries.

Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

• Able to work in all areas of Food and Beverage including Bar, Restaurant, Events & weddings and spa.
• Welcome guests in a polite and friendly manner
• Take and deliver customer orders, consistently demonstrating high levels of customer service
• Prepare set ups for tables
• Follow cash handling procedures
• Manage guest queries in a timely and efficient manner
• Up-sell with latest departmental incentives
• Ensure compliance of brand standards
• Strive to achieve departmental targets
• Ensure cleanliness of work areas
• Comply with hotel security, fire regulations and all health and safety legislation
• Comply with local licensing laws
• Be environmentally aware

Skills Required:

An Apprenticeship Food and Beverage is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow:

Salary:

£5.25 per hour plus a £1000 bonus when the course is passed.

Working Week:

• Minimum of 30 hours per week as per rota that includes 6 hours college or training on a Monday.
• A breakfast shift would start at 7am or if on a function your shift could end at 1am.

Is there potential for future employment?

Yes. After you have passed the course, you may be offered a promotion to the position of supervisor. Currently £9.91 per hour.

Qualifications Required:

A good standard of Maths and English (4/C or Equivalent).

Training to be Provided:

Hospitality Apprenticeship Level 2.

• Due to the rural location do you have your own form of transport to commute? Or can you easily get lifts from friends or family? There are no buses at night.
• You will be expected to work evenings and weekends.
